Christmas Haiku

Some Christmas haiku...

St. Nicholas lost
his watch in the whirring white wash -
Snow stole Christmas time.

Holy holly and
robin's rich red breast naked,
sweating by the fire.

Big, bald angel stood
hunched over the fire sings
'our Lord was colder'.

A halo of gold,
glistening icicles is
an ice-sunflower.

I will post some gig dates soon.

Toy For Loveless Child

Not about Exeter Central, I thought I'd save that one to be listened to rather than read. Here's another little ditty instead...

Toy For Loveless Child

What is lemon folly

but games of a yellow dolly.

Blonde haired toy of fruit tree

suns her game in Sicily,

bored.

Aesthetica

Damn. So close, but yet so far. And probably just as cliché. I entered Aesthetica's poetry competition, and have been waiting ages to find out the results. But despite being 'strongly considered' and one of the top 40, I didn't quite make the cut. Never mind. I don't know why, but I felt the urge to fill you in on that. All two of my followers. Feel special...you are the only ones who know!

Morning and Evening Death

Morning And Evening Death

I woke up this morning feeling stale, and it was evening,

found feathers of a bloody swallow tickling my windowsill,

I slept this evening feeling ripe, and it was morning,

feathers absconded, no arduous swallow to sing,

nor to peck at my icy heart.

Have I grown, Good Lord, with only death on my mind?

No wonder I feel sleepy to think of heaven -

its graceful angels crying for I am bitter,

and its generous growth of wildlife

swapping my empty soul for tender meat.

My skin is not thick enough to satisfy -

saintly animals, I just want my swallow and I

to be savoured as peaceful helpers

to Eden's milieu, I can

if I want

be restless...

I went to Bristol

I read in the middle of Bristol City Centre yesterday. And although I got a few people telling me to 'shut up!' I did have some very nice people stop and watch me. Even got a potential gig out of it. I feel pretty accomplished.
Which city shall I invade with an army of linguistic beauty next?

I have a gig this Saturday with my mate Dave Mullens, we will be doing a couple of five minute slots between some amazing bands - Head Of Programmes, Patrick James Pearson and The Rooftop Gambler. It's at The Barrelhouse, Totnes and starts at 8pm.
Next Wednesday 18th I will be doing a slot at The Wondermentalist Open Mic Night - The Phoenix, Exeter.

Bristol

I'm going to Bristol today see Mew play, I can't wait, one of my favourite bands at the moment.
I'm also going to take my poetry and make a home in the city centre tommorow and do a bit of 'street reading'. I haven't done this before, but have meaning to for a while, I'm looking forward to it, just hoping that when push comes to shove I don't lose my bottle!

Guy Thoughts

Guy Fawkes night came, and the only fireworks I saw were the ones from my window...lame.
All is not lost though, I did get a poem out of it...

Guy Thoughts

The beat of scribbling music

note by note

captures

shimmering sparks

sprinkled like rainbow pencil shavings -

the colours

of a new earth,

frozen outside.

Behold the rattling

stained glass window/

multicoloured mosaic -

picture

of rising muse

sitting in my study.

Guy Fawkes

and his explosive restoration

was good for something

after all,

even if it was

just a scribble.
